Velvety, almost black leaves with pale veins standing out in relief. It comes from the Borneo understorey and it shows: below 60% humidity it curls at the edges and slows down. In a cabinet it is another plant altogether. It also circulates as "Alocasia chienlii", a name that has not been validly published: I sell it under its trade name, not under a species that is not confirmed.

How to propagate it
- Lift the root ball and find the cormlets at the base
- Separate with a sterile blade, leaving a few roots on each
- Moist sphagnum in a closed container at 25°C
- First leaf in 4–8 weeks
