Deeply lobed arrow-shaped leaves, not unlike a stag's antlers, with veins in near-black green and a fine down that makes them rough to the touch. The botanical name is Alocasia tandurusa; for years it was sold as "A. sulawesi". Its position is still unsettled — whether it is a species of its own, a hybrid or a form of something already described is still argued over. In low light the lobes close up and the leaf turns ordinary: of this group, it is the one that forgives shade least.
