Bright pink veins on dark olive green, in a cane-type upright begonia that reaches a metre and a half, with leaves up to thirty centimetres: as it grows it has to be tied to a stake, or it bends under its own weight. Subsp. exotica is the one with the strongest pink. It is not a living-room plant: it wants a terrarium or a cabinet, and when the air is too dry the leaves curl at the edges and fade.
