Chilean long-fibre sphagnum 300 g
Chilean long-fibre sphagnum up to 15 cm, sustainably harvested. 300 g yields 10–12 litres.
Chilean long-fibre sphagnum — up to fifteen centimetres — the same grade we root our cuttings in. The long fibre is not a nicety: short fibre packs down, settles on the bottom and suffocates roots, while this stays open even when wet.
It is naturally antifungal and holds a quantity of water out of all proportion to its weight, which makes it irreplaceable for two jobs — rooting cuttings and filling moss poles. On a delicate root system, being antifungal matters more than the absorbency does.
Three hundred dry grams look like very little until you wet them: rehydrated, they become ten to twelve litres.

How to use it
Soak it before use and wring it out well: it should be damp, not dripping. Wrap it round the node of a cutting or around aerial roots, or use it to fill a moss pole — in self-watering setups it beats the mix, because it holds a steadier moisture. Store it dry and sealed: left damp in the bag it goes mouldy.
