Feeding

Semi-hydro feeding

The four HESI products that work together in semi-hydro, plus two pipettes to measure them.

Semi-hydro feeding

This is not a shelf of fertilisers: it is the combination that makes sense in an inert substrate, where the plant finds only what you give it. Root Complex to form or recover roots, Hydro Growth as growth nutrition in the form roots take up immediately, PowerZyme to break down dead root material before it becomes the place rot starts from, and SuperVit to withstand the stress of a repotting or a change of light.

They are all concentrates and they are dosed in millilitres — the SuperVit in drops, one per five litres — so the two pipettes are not an accessory: they are the only way to respect the doses. One bottle of each covers a season comfortably on a home collection.

How it goes together

  1. Hydro Growth at every top-up of the reservoir, 5 ml per litre. It is the base: in an inert substrate it is the only source of nutrition there is.
  2. Root Complex on repotting, on conversions and on cuttings, 5 ml per litre — half dose if you use it continuously. It is not a fertiliser and it does not replace Hydro Growth: it is what you give when roots have to form or re-form.
  3. PowerZyme at 2 ml per litre, once or twice a week. It breaks down dead root material before it becomes the place a rot starts from, and it is the reason a water reservoir does not go bad.
  4. SuperVit one drop per five litres, at every watering. It is extremely concentrated — twenty-five substances in ten millilitres — and going heavy does not help.
  5. They mix in the same water without trouble. The reference parameters in growth are EC up to 1.5 mS/cm and pH between 5.8 and 6.2: outside that the plant shows deficiencies in a solution full of nutrition.
  6. One bottle of each covers a season comfortably on a home collection. The SuperVit, dosed in drops, lasts years.
